Introducing Startuplist Africa 🎉
On 20th June, 2020, we announced a soft-launch of an exciting project we’ve been working on called Startuplist Africa. This came after years of intensive work gathering data, researching and learning about African Startups with a particular focus on helping structure the unstructured Startup Ecosystem.
What is Startuplist Africa ?
Startuplist Africa is a data-driven platform that helps you discover and gain insight into the African Startup Ecosystem.
The Startup Ecosystem in Africa is growing rapidly and Investors are paying attention. Over 500% increase (with data disparities) in investment deals from 2015 to 2019 with a projected upward trajectory. This presents a whole new horizon of opportunities for African startups as the region is laden with several problems that calls for creative solutions. It is rather disheartening that most of the great startups have little or no access to these funding opportunities, largely because they lack the visibility they require, and also data about them are usually non-existent to enable investors conduct their due diligence.
Startuplist Africa seeks to bridge these gaps (opportunity and knowledge) by using a data-driven approach to help investors, researchers, entrepreneurs and policy-makers make guided decisions on their next ventures.
How Startuplist Africa works?
Startuplist Africa is run by a team of tech professionals, researchers and enthusiasts who are grounded and constantly researching the space for budding Entrepreneurs and companies who are solving problems for (or in) Africa in a scalable way.
We utilize smart systems that crawl and process information on these Startups as well as present them as signals, stats or metrics. Currently, we provide information on different Sectors, Startups, Fundings, Diversity, Location, Growth (Employee growth, Web Traffic, App Downloads), News, Interviews with the team and many more. As the ecosystem grows so does our dataset.

Why we built Startuplist Africa ?
There’s a dearth of authentic information on the state of Startup funding in Africa. It inspires the need to keep an official list of companies in Africa with a particular focus on bridging the knowledge and opportunity gaps hence Startuplist Africa.
How to get listed on Startuplist Africa?
We accept public submissions from African Startups via our waitlist. On submission, our team manually reviews them to ensure that they fall along the lines of a startup definition before eventually reaching out to the founders and listing.
What’s next?
We are continuously improving our service with passion and love for the African startup ecosystem. A lot of improvements and interesting features are scheduled for the upcoming months.
